Academic and Professional Career
- Born and raised in Hamburg; studied Politics, Empirical Cultural Studies and German Studies (master’s and state examination) at the University of Tübingen
- As research associate, obtained doctorate at the Institute for Political Science at the University of Tübingen, followed by post-doctoral lecturing qualification at the Humboldt University, Berlin and the Free University, Berlin
- Elected by the municipal council of Stuttgart to the post of women’s representative in 1986; in the same year national spokeswomen for all women’s representatives and equal opportunities offices
- Head of Department for the Advancement of Women, reporting directly to the board of management of Volkswagen AG; in addition to her responsibilities in public administration and at Volkswagen AG, carried out lecturing work at the Universities of Stuttgart and Hanover
- Appointed in 1991 to the University of Applied Sciences in Erfurt as lecturer in Sociology; was directly involved in building up the university
- Lecturing work at the Institute of European Ethnology at the Humboldt University, Berlin
- Since 1993 has been Professor of Politics at the FHVR Berlin (now Berlin School of Economics and Law – BSEL); subject coordinator for Politics
