Academic and Professional Career

  • Until 1980: Studied English and Law at the University of Heidelberg and the Free University (FU), Berlin, completing the first state examination in law (Berlin)
  • 1980-82: Practical legal training under the supervision of the Higher Regional Court of Berlin
  • 1982: Second state examination (State Examination Office, Berlin)
  • 1986: Sworn in as interpreter for the English language
  • 1982-1990: Staff Judge Advocate in the legal department of the US army
  • 1990: Doctorate at the FU Berlin; title, “Protection against dismissal in US labour law”
  • 1991: Appointed professor at the FHVR Berlin (now Berlin School of Economics and Law – BSEL)
  • 1995-1997: Vice-principal of the FHVR Berlin
  • 2002: Chair of the examination committee for professional guardians and custodians
  • 2003: Dean of Studies of the Administration of Legal Affairs Faculty
