• 1973-1977: Studied Mathematics at the “Otto von Guerike” Technical University of Magdeburg, graduating with a Diploma in Mathematics
• 1977-1981: Research assistant at the Faculty of Mathematics at the “Otto von Guerike” Technical University of Magdeburg
• 1982: Doctorate (Dr. rer. nat.)
• 1981-1987: Planning engineer with responsibility for decentralised computer technology in the traffic planning department of the administrative region of Magdeburg
• 1988-1997: Research assistant at the Faculty of Mathematics at the “Otto von Guerike” University of Magdeburg
• 1997: Professor at the Vocational Academy in Berlin
