- 1982-1986: Studied History, Politics, Economics and Law at the Universities of Würzburg and Munich and at the London School of Economics and Political Science
- 1991: Lawyer at the legal practice McGuire Woods Battle and Boothe in Washington D.C.
- 1992-1995: Lawyer at the legal practice Droste (now Lovells)
- Since end 1995: Judge for the commercial register at the District Court of Charlottenburg, with specific responsibility for company law
- Since 2000: Alongside the position as judge, professor of civil law, commercial and company law; currently vice-dean of the Administration of Legal Affairs Faculty
- Summer 2008: Visiting lecturer at Drexel University, Philadelphia, USA; several lectures abroad
- October 2012: Visiting professor at University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield, UK (International Corporate Law)
