- 1988: Diploma in Business Administration (FU Berlin)
- 1989-1991: Controller for International Sales at Schering AG
- 1992-1998: Assistant to the founder and principal shareholder of the Projektwerkstatt GmbH / Teekampagne (an ethical and environmentally aware tea import company)
- 1994: 5-month period of research on the topic of entrepreneurship at New York University, Babson College (Boston, MA) and the Universidad de Monterrey (Mexico)
- 1994-2001: part-time lecturer at the FHTW and FHW Berlin (now BSEL) and the FU Berlin
- 1996-2001: Designed and managed as CEO the Existenzgründer-Instituts Berlin (an institute for new entrepreneurs); development of the business plan competition in Berlin
- 1997: Doctorate in Economics (FU Berlin)
- 2000-2001: 4 Equity Capital AG (director)
- 2001-2005: Professor of General Business Administration, business start-ups and the management of small- to medium-sized enterprises at the FHW Berlin / BSEL
