380 Participants from all across Europe, including Turkey and Russia, with many others from the Americas, Asia and Africa gathered at HWR Berlin for the 8th Annual Conference in Political Economy, “The Political Economy of Inequalities and Instabilities in the 21st Century”


The HWR sees it as a matter of vital social importance that refugees be able to study on university courses. Taking a further step in this direction on 13 September, the HWR signed a co-operation agreement with Kiron Open Higher Education, an education organization for refugees.


The large number of German academics working in the USA and Canada all consider returning home, and many of them eventually do so. A conference of the annual general meeting of GAIN discussed the ways and means of attracting them to a University of Applied Science when they eventually decide to make the move.


Working under the title “Europe: Integration and/or Disintegration”, this year’s Summer School from the Institute for Cooperation with Central and Eastern European Countries in Public Reform (IMO) at the BSEL saw some informative debates amongst its international students drawn from Poland, Ukraine and Germany.
