The HWR Berlin enables refugees to study
The HWR sees it as a matter of vital social importance that refugees be able to study on university courses. Taking a further step in this direction on 13 September, the HWR signed a co-operation agreement with Kiron Open Higher Education, an education organization for refugees.
Internationally renowned universities from Harvard to the TU Munich provide the relevant modules for the online “Kiron Campus”. This opens participation in university education to all refugees, even if they lack the necessary German language skills.
In signing the agreement, the HWR Berlin undertakes to recognize this module. After satisfying the admission requirements, participants in the Kiron online study programme can change to the HWR Berlin and start a course of studies in the Bachelor's degree courses Business Administration or Entrepreneurship and Corporate Succession. The HWR Berlin is the first of 11 Public universities in Berlin to participate in the Kiron scheme.
This October sees the return of the tried and tested programme for refugees: „JUST – Join Us and Study“ . “JUST – German” is a German-language course (level B2, 25 contact hours per week) preparing its participants for study at a German university. The “JUST - Study” course enables refugees to enrol for a semester as auditing students at the HWR and study on a range of General Studies courses and selected classes from regular degree programmes. Funded by the DAAD, participation in the scheme is free-of-charge.
