The 2009 Berlin International Summer School at the Berlin School of Economics and Law (BSEL) welcomed 94 participants from over 20 countries including France, the UK and Belgium, as well as Russia, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, the USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil and India. The five different courses on the programme all started successfully as scheduled on 21 and 28 June.

The three to four-week courses at the BSEL Schöneberg Campus either focus on business topics or provide a chance to learn German and discover German culture. The courses include trips to companies and political institutions, for example, to the EU representation in Berlin, Siemens AG, the Berlin Wasserbetriebe or Volkswagen in Wolfsburg.

On the extensive accompanying programme, students have the chance to visit cultural highlights such as Potsdam and the Museum Island. The group of students from various nationalities and ethnic backgrounds have also proved to be extremely interested in visiting the Holocaust Memorial and the memorial site at the former Sachsenhausen concentration camp. In the evening, the course participants get together for activities ranging from beach volleyball to visiting some of Berlin's many beer gardens.
