In its meeting on Tuesday, 19 January 2010, the Academic Senate at the Berlin School of Economics and Law (BSEL) appointed Prof. Dr. Thorsten Kurzawa as the University's next First Vice-President. Prof. Dr. Andreas Zaby and Prof. Dr. Clemens Arzt were elected as the University's other two Vice-Presidents. Together with Prof. Dr. Bernd Reissert, who was appointed as the new BSEL President by the Academic Senate in November 2009, they form the new University Management.
The University Management will take over from the present Rectorate on 1 April 2010. Prof. Dr. Franz Herbert Rieger, the President, and Prof. Dr. Michael Tolksdorf, First Vice-President of the BSEL Berlin, are retiring from the University.
The Vice-Presidents will be responsible for the thematic areas of, for example, "Courses and Teaching", "International Affairs" and "Research". Together with Prof. Reissert, agreement will be reached over the coming months on their specific remits. In his function as First Vice President, Prof. Dr. Kurzawa will be the President's permanent representative.
Since 1 April 2009, the Berlin School of Economics and Law (BSEL) has had new Bylaws and reformed University Statutes. On this basis, from the summer semester 2010, the present Rectorate will be replaced by a University Management. The BSEL Berlin President and First Vice President are appointed for four years. The other two Vice Presidents are each elected for a term of two years.
