Expanded range of degree programmes from winter semester 2010/11

03 March 2010

The Berlin School of Economics and Law (BSEL) is expanding its range of Bachelor and Master degree courses. Six innovative degree programmes are scheduled to start in the winter semester 2010/11 and preparation for three more Master programmes is already underway. The new MA programmes strengthen the University's profile, providing a portfolio of postgraduate degrees for those prospective students with a Bachelor degree or equivalent first qualification who are interested in a further course of study.

Full-time MA programmes

From October 2010, the Faculty of Business and Economics, which already runs four MA programmes, is offering four new MA qualifications building on BSEL undergraduate degrees. The new MA degrees are: "International Business and Consulting“, "The Political Economy of European Integration“, "Corporate Law in an International Context“ and "Industrial Engineering – Energy and Environmental Resources“. The courses on the MA in International Business and Consulting and the MA in the Political Economy of European Integration are taught in English, further strengthening the range of courses for students from abroad.

The MA in International Business and Consulting provides a broad basis of business administration expertise; the two electives of International Human Resource Management and International Strategic Management adopt an applied approach within an international perspective. The MA in the Political Economy of European Integration offers key skills and expertise for anyone planning a career in executive management in European institutions such as government and corporate organisations, unions or NGOs.

The MA in Corporate Law in an International Context adopts a strongly applied approach to content reflecting current and topical issues. Aside from exploring the areas of corporate law germane to companies active in the international arena, the programme offers the chance to specialise in either corporate funding or labour law/Human Resources. The MA in Industrial Engineering – Energy and Environmental Resources is run in cooperation with the Beuth Hochschule Berlin. On this programme, an interdisciplinary approach is taken to combining business and engineering expertise under the guiding principle of sustainable development. In future, both business and technologies will be shaped by decisions that are socially responsible, environmentally aware and directed to conserving energy and resources. The MA programme, which is not only innovative but also has some unique features, starts from this basis to provide the requisite skills and expertise.

Applications from prospective students are being accepted from April 2010.

Part-time MA programmes

There are also a number of new part-time MA programmes scheduled to start in the winter semester 2010/11. These programmes have been specially designed for those who have already started down their chosen career path and are interested in obtaining an additional qualification. The MA in Process and Project Management is the first company-linked postgraduate qualification offered by the BSEL. This MA, which is run by the Faculty of Company-Linked Programmes, is subject to tuition fees. The programme is designed for economists, engineers, and computer scientists working in executive management or with a communication function in their company or soon expecting to take on such a position. Applications for the MA in Process and Project Management can be submitted now. more (in German)

Company-Linked Bachelor programme in English

In the winter semester 2010/11, the BSEL is also launching a new company-linked Bachelor programme. For the first time, the Faculty of Company-Linked Programmes is offering a degree in Business Administration/Logistics and Transportation in English. In offering this degree, the BSEL is responding to a concrete need registered by German and international companies for young managers trained in logistics to work in European and global networks. The submission period for applications to this international programme is now open. more

Outlook

The BSEL is also planning a number of MA programmes in areas not directly building on the University's existing undergraduate degrees. A "Security Management" long-distance learning programme is scheduled to be launched in autumn 2010. The programme, run by the Faculty of Police and Security Management together with the Institute for Distance Learning, will be integrated into the portfolio of BSEL degrees. It will provide a further applied qualification for those already working in industrial, operational and municipal security. At present, the Faculty of Legal Studies is preparing a distance-learning programme on "Judicially Ordered Representation Management", while the IMB Institute of Management Berlin is designing an MA in International Health and Hospital Management.
