International Business team with IBU student wins the HOTS business plan competition
23 September 2009 The 2009 HOTS (Hotel Operations Tactics and Strategy) business plan competition has been won by an international team including Jost Braeckelmann, a student on the German-British International Business programme at the Berlin School of Economics and Law (BSEL).
The HOTS challenge is based on teams assuming the management of a hotel in crisis with the aim of developing a suitable business plan and increasing the hotel's efficiency. The teams for this first-round task competed simultaneously at the Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, University Zuyd Maastricht, the Zaragoza Hotel Management School, the Cologne University of Applied Sciences and the Nizhny Novgorod State University. The final was held in the impressive Amrath Grand Hotel de l´Empereur in Maastricht with teams allowed a 30-minute presentation to defend their recommendations. The competition jury, comprising academics and the General Manager of the Amrath Grand Hotel de l´Empereur, unanimously ranked the team with IBU student Jost Braeckelmann first, praising the accurate diagnosis of key problem areas, meticulous planning and realistic resource planning.
