German-Ukrainian-Kazakh Summer School in Berlin
Under the framework of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) sponsoring programme, funded by the German Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt) the 10th Summer School on Law and Public Administration was held from 17 to 24 June 2019 at the Campus Lichtenberg of the Berlin School of Economics and Law (HWR Berlin).
The President of HWR Berlin, Prof. Dr. Andreas Zaby, Maxym Yemelianov (Envoy of the Embassy of Ukraine), Dr. Yerbulat Seilekhanov (Envoi of the Embassy of Kazakhstan) and Prof. Oesten Baller welcomed the students from Ukraine and for the first time from Kazakhstan.
The 26 Summer School’s participants included PhD, Master and Bachelor students from the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the National Academy of Public Administration - the President of Ukraine (NAPA) in Kiev, the Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Lviv and Odessa Regional Institutes of Public Administration, the Taras Shevchenko National University in Kiev, and the Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University in Kharkiv.
The topics of the Summer School included lectures and discussion of the Russian-Ukrainian Conflict, Decentralisation, German Police Law, as well as workshops on Administrative Jurisdiction at the Administrative Court of Berlin, Fighting Corruption, and Intercultural Competence. The final day was dedicated to a Management Game “Hurricane of Odessa”, guided by Prof. Dr. Oesten Baller and Prof. Dr. Goran Mandic from our partner university in Belgrade, Serbia. Students of the Bachelor programme Security Management participated in the workshops and the Management Game.
Excursions to the German Bundestag, Potsdam, the New Museum, and a boat trip complemented the event. The final ceremony took place at the Brauhaus Südstern. All participants were enthusiastic about an interesting week in Berlin.
