This lecture will introduce the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL; CAST, 2018), as well as addressing critiques of the UDL approach and changes currently in process with regard to these guidelines. Empirical data highlighting the challenges for dis/abled students will be used as a basis for outlining ethical, civic, and pragmatic imperatives for an inclusive approach at the tertiary level and in particular for the courses of study offered by the Berlin School of Economics and Law. Finally, selected measures illustrating the practical implementation of UDL will highlight how inclusion can be pursued with this framework.
