What is a Bachelor’s degree?

A Bachelor’s degree is a first-level university degree which qualifies its holder for professional entry. A Bachelor's degree programme taught at the Hochschule für Wirtschaft und Recht Berlin (HWR Berlin) usually takes six semesters to complete, i.e. three years. It culminates in the award of a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.), Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree. The Bachelor’s degree qualifies its holder for admission to Master’s degree, a second level university degree, in which students deepen their knowledge and understanding of their chosen subject.

What is a Master’s degree?

A Master’s degree is the second stage of your studies: once you have obtained a Bachelor's degree qualification, you can add a Master's degree to qualify yourself further for the world of work or an academic career. A Master’s degree programme taught at the HWR Berlin usually takes four semesters to complete, i.e. about two years, and culminates in the award of a Master of Arts (M.A.), Master of Laws (LL.M.) or Master of Science (M.Sc.). A Master’s degree qualifies you for admission to a doctoral degree. A doctoral degree is the third stage of studying.

What is a cooperative studies degree programme?

Cooperative studies − never heard of it? A cooperative studies degree combines practical experience-based company training with academic teaching. The theory and practice phases alternate. Applicants wishing to study for a cooperative studies degree at the HWR Berlin should send their applications to one of our approximately 700 partner companies. Graduates of a cooperative studies degree programme hold both a Bachelor’s degree qualification and have considerable professional experience. A cooperative studies degree programme taught at the HWR usually takes six semesters to complete, i.e. about three years..

What is a Diplom?

We offer only very few Diplom degree programmes at the HWR Berlin. Before the development in Germany of the Bachelor’s degree qualification within the scope of the Bologna reform, a Diplom was one of two standard degree qualifications awarded to humanities students. After 1999, European countries adopted the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes. Those studying for a Diplom degree at the HWR Berlin will usually study for three years.

What is an MBA?

The Master of Business Administration (MBA), is a degree programme of continuing professional development taught at the Berlin Professional School (BPS) at the HWR Berlin. It is aimed at all those in work, who wish to extend their knowledge of Business Administration and Management. The BPS imparts the knowledge and skills required to assume management responsibilities in an internationally-active company. An MBA can be studied full-time, part-time or as a distance learning programme.

Was is an MPA?

The four-semester Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree programme of continuing professional development prepares employees of the public administration for senior management positions. The MPA is a distance learning course taught in blended learning format. Online independent study phases alternate with classroom-based forms of teaching at the campus of the Berlin Professional School in Berlin Lichtenberg.
