Police and Security Management in Profile

Multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary: Studying at the Department of Police and Security Management allows students to address a wide variety of public and private security issues from national and international perspectives.

The declared aim of the department is to impart and develop the necessary professional competences that meet the scientific requirements and practical demands of the professional field of “security". More than 40 professors and numerous lecturers from professional practice support students in acquiring knowledge.

Interdisciplinary and practice-oriented education for responsible action

All degree programmes impart the necessary specialist and methodological knowledge from the disciplines of law, police, security, social sciences and economics as well as key qualifications relevant to the profession. These include a sense of responsibility, teamwork and conflict management skills as well as the development of an ethically sound attitude. The programme is interdisciplinary, practice-oriented, and uses state-of-the-art teaching and learning methods.

Strong international and regional partnerships

In addition, the department maintains intensive contacts with international partner universities and other educational and research institutions. Furthermore, regular connective exchange is maintained with a large number of security-oriented companies and agencies in the region and beyond.

Cooperation with the Berlin Police Academy

A key feature of our department is its close collaboration with the Berlin Police Academy: Together, the Berlin Police Academy and the HWR Berlin jointly design the Bachelor’s degree program “Higher Police Service” including its curriculum – closely integrated, practice-oriented, and tailored to the specific needs of future professionals and leaders in the security sector.
