How to apply

The HWR Berlin offers a wide range of degree programmes and courses. A variety of different application procedures therefore exist for these numerous study options. The exact application modalities for the individual degree programmes can be found on the respective page for each programme.

Here we have compiled some general information for you on how to apply, as a first reference point.

Admission requirements

This term describes the qualifications that you must have in order to study at the HWR Berlin.
The Central Office for Foreign Education (ZaB) of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (KMK) determines how foreign certificates are to be evaluated. Detailed information on the individual countries can be found in the anabin database.

Online application portal

The HWR Berlin has placed external preliminary examination procedures at the forefront of the application process for applicants from abroad. Here it is confirmed whether applicants have fulfilled basic admission requirements. The examination procedure is conducted by the ASSIST (Arbeits- und Servicestelle für internationale Studienbewerbungen) service for a fee (www.uni-assist.de).

The HWR Berlin uses ASSIST to check wither the following prerequisites have been fulfilled:

  • a fully completed application form including curriculum vitae with full details up to the present
  • all certificates and evidence in the form required by the HWR Berlin
  • the university entrance qualification for the desired degree programme
  • German language skills at the required level
  • evidence of test results, if required.

In addition to these basic prerequisites, further evidence may be required, which must also be submitted to ASSIST together with the application documents. Only then is your application complete and ready to be finally processed by the HWR Berlin.
