The COIL4all project aimed to develop innovative international teaching and learning formats that enable students to gain global learning experience – regardless of their location or financial resources.

Important project results

As part of COIL4all, various digital cooperation formats were introduced and tested in the departments of Business and Economics, Cooperative Studies, and Public Administration in conjunction with short-term stays abroad. The key findings include:

  • Development and integration of new COIL formats in different departments
  • Strengthening intercultural skills through joint courses and project work with international partners
  • Establishing sustainable collaborations with universities from different regions of the world
  • Promoting digital and collaborative forms of learning that prepare students for an increasingly global working world

A total of 14 projects were implemented with partner universities and industry partners in seven countries. As part of these projects, more than 200 students and teachers from HWR Berlin and the international partner universities were supported for short-term stays within the framework of the projects.

The partner universities involved in the COIL4all project were:

  • University of Belgrade, Serbia
  • University of Liverpool, UK
  • Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Switzerland
  • Athens University of Economic and Business, Greece
  • UNIFOR University of Fortaleza, Brazil

Valuable exchange during the face-to-face phases

The face-to-face phases at HWR Berlin and at the partner universities in Serbia, Switzerland, the UK, Greece, Brazil, and France, which were linked to the virtual learning and collaboration phases, served to deepen the exchange and networking among the participating students and to give them a brief immersion in the culture of the host country. A student at HWR Berlin who participated in the “Data Analytics in Finance and Marketing” project says:

“The exchange not only helped me to better understand cultural differences, but also to discover commonalities and make new friends. It was exciting to see how differently challenges are approached in different countries and how much we can learn from each other.”

The close cooperation between teachers and students from several countries impressively demonstrated how virtual international collaborations can motivate, broaden horizons, and open up new perspectives on subject content.

Thanks to international partners

HWR Berlin would like to express its sincere thanks to all participating international partner universities, their teachers, staff, and students who supported COIL4all with great commitment and actively helped to shape it. We would also like to thank the DAAD for its support, as well as the participating professors and colleagues at HWR who have driven the project forward with great dedication.

Looking to the future

COIL4all has shown that international cooperation can be successfully transferred to digital teaching – thus making an important contribution to the strategic development of globally networked education at the HWR Berlin.
