What motivates you to conduct this research?

We want to understand the individual motives and social circumstances that lead to violence and aggression against emergency services personnel.

What is the starting point?

In recent years, there have been incidents of violence against non-police emergency services during major events such as New Year's Eve, demonstrations, but also at folk festivals and football championship celebrations. However, even during normal operations, emergency services personnel are increasingly becoming victims of aggression. The reasons for this development have hardly been the subject of social science research to date, which is why we would like to contribute to a better understanding of this social phenomenon.

What are the specific goals of the project?

The aim is to conduct a scientific analysis of collective violence against non-police emergency services in order to establish a basis for the effective prevention and combating of aggression and violence against emergency services.

How does the project team intend to achieve these goals?

  • Analysis of the organisational framework conditions for interactions
  • In-depth analysis of escalating interaction processes between rescue workers and potential perpetrators
  • Identification of the perception and assessment of events from an organisational perspective and from the perspective of those involved and not involved
  • Analysis of any socio-spatial contextual factors
