Degree programme

Whether flats, factories, museum and theatres, schools, roads, tunnels, airports or offshore wind parks, the work of Civil Engineers exercises a key influence on our world. Construction is a key aspect of value creation involving investment and commercial challenges, and it has a lasting impact on our built environ- ment. Civil engineers are involved in all three levels: as planners, construction managers or town planners.

This cooperative studies degree programme seeks to train specialists for all three tasks. Placing the central priority on providing well-grounded training in the fundamentals of the subject, the degree programme also seeks to enable students to develop the methodological and social skills requisite for a demanding profession. As such, it ensures regular practical phases in Civil Engineering companies

Professional field

Civil Engineers are employed in a range of positions: engineering companies, planning and construction companies, construction and project management companies, building services providers and public administrations. This degree qualification corresponds to the earlier Diplom-Ingenieur (FH).

Degree structure

The first four semesters focus on the foundation courses Mathematics, Mechan- ics, Structural Design, Building Physics and Construction Materials. Later in the programme, students can develop specialisms in Support Structures, Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering Geology and Water, Traffic and Environmental Sciences. The fourth and fifth semesters focus on interdisci- plinary projects which deal with selected issues from a practice setting; these can provide inspiration for the final thesis.

foundation for a career as a Civil Engineer.

These skills include:

  •  The development, presentation, technical optimization and economic evaluation of construction designs
  • Static calculations
  • The confident use of the core instruments of Construction Site
  • Management (e. g. spreadsheets, timetabling)
  •   The ability to complete construction projects in accordance with the legal specifications and co-ordinate of all those involved in construction work

Students practice all the requisite project and team working skills in design and study projects. During the practical phase, students learn about the various business fields in which their host company works. They also develop an understanding of commercial culture and grasp the central importance of the construction site as the focus of activities.

We work together with construction companies, planning offices and the public administration.
