Published under the name of an institution (International Crisis Group), the works listed are the result of ten years of practice-oriented research and strategic analysis. Under the leadership of Prof. Schultze-Kraft, a solid and consistent methodological framework was implemented in a number of complex conflict areas, covering topics such as gang violence in Port-au-Prince, support for preparations for peace negotiations in Colombia, promotion of initiatives to curb unrest and democratic regression in Bolivia, Ecuador and Venezuela, and combating cross-border organised crime. Prof Schultze-Kraft's H-index illustrates the influence of his academic research within the international scientific community, while his contributions to international policy underscore his ongoing commitment to promoting peace, security and stability worldwide.

International Crisis Group

Cluster 1: Conflict Resolution & Peace Architecture

Focus: The transition from violent conflict to negotiated settlements. Empirical "Early Warning" and "Late Stage" analysis for the Colombian conflict. Prof Schultze-Kraft’s and his team’s work documented the transition from the failed Caguán talks to the military pressure of Plan Colombia, ultimately laying the analytical groundwork for the 2012–2016 peace process. Key Impact: Officially referenced within diplomatic and policy contexts concerning the designation of "Internal Armed Conflict" and relevant applications of international humanitarian law. Keywords: Security Sector Reform (SSR), Security Policy, Demobilization, Disarmament and Reintegration (DDR), Peace Mediation and Negotiation, Peace & Justice, International Humanitarian and Human Rights Law.

Cluster 2: Fragile States & Democratic Backsliding

Focus: The erosion of institutional checks and balances and state fragility. This cluster tracked the "slow-motion" collapse of democratic norms and institutional stability, analysing the rise of executive overreach not just in Venezuela, but the constitutional crises in the Andes (Ecuador/Bolivia) and the Caribbean (Haiti). Key Impact: Influencing decision-making in key intergovernmental bodies (UNSC, OAS, EU), providing "primary sources" now used by political scientists to explain the roots of current authoritarian trends and institutional decay. Keywords: Authoritarianism, Autocracy, Institutional Decay, Rule of Law, Political Polarization, Democracy.

Cluster 3: Transnational Threats & Shadow Economies

Focus: The intersection of narcotics, insurgency, paramilitaries, and governance. Highlighted by the foundational Latin American Drugs I & II reports, this cluster shifted the global conversation from "War on Drugs" to "Drug Policy Reform." Prof Schultze-Kraft’s and his team’s work exposed how shadow economies fund non-state armed groups and corrupt state institutions. Key Impact: Heavily utilized by UNODC and OAS; served as a "reality check" for European and US donor agencies regarding the efficacy of eradication-only models. Keywords: Organized Crime, Narcotrafficking, Alternative Development, Informal and Illicit Economies.
