Did you gain any professional experience or complete an apprenticeship before starting your studies?
Before starting my studies, I completed an apprenticeship as an IT systems specialist. Based on my performance, the company then offered me a spot in a dual study program in Berlin.
What motivated you to choose the Service Management program at HWR Berlin?
The combination of theory and practice in the dual study model was the deciding factor for me. I didn’t just want to acquire theoretical knowledge, but also to apply and deepen it in my daily work. Especially in service management, this opens up a wide range of development opportunities in a growing industry. The comprehensive foundation in business administration, the specialization in the service sector, and the international focus of the program were decisive factors for me in choosing Business Administration/Service Management at HWR Berlin.
What experience at HWR Berlin do you remember most, and why?
The dual study program at HWR Berlin was challenging but fair—a real adventure. I particularly remember dedicated faculty members such as Prof. Dr. Bustamante, Dr. Gapp, and Prof. Dr. Afflerbach, under whom I was able to write my thesis. Ms. Nauwald in the department office was also a great support. These people had a significant influence on my studies
Was there an experience during your studies that had a lasting impact on you?
After several years at various companies, I made a conscious decision to join a dynamic startup. We operate online shops for electric car accessories and sell our own sustainably produced brand. In my multifaceted role, I’m involved in everything from strategy to day-to-day issues.
What are you currently working on?
What does a typical workday look like for you?
There’s hardly such a thing as a typical workday—every day is different. The office, working from home, meetings with clients or suppliers: the variety is what makes the job exciting. Depending on the project, it requires creativity, quick solutions, flexibility—and resilience in dealing with change.
How did you find out about your current position?
Just like with my previous jobs, I landed my current position through personal connections—a strong network, dedication, and respectful interactions often open up new opportunities on their own.
What do you particularly appreciate about your current job?
I especially appreciate the fast-paced environment and short decision-making processes, which give me plenty of freedom to pursue my own ideas. Our “trial and error” mindset allows us to act quickly and learn from our mistakes. I also enjoy the flexibility in terms of time and location—as well as the collegial, almost friendly atmosphere within the team.
Would you recommend studying at HWR Berlin?
Definitely. My time at HWR Berlin was exciting and educational. The dual program, in particular, demanded a lot of dedication—we often studied day and night and pushed ourselves to our limits. Those who stick with it grow both professionally and personally and are well-prepared for the future.
What advice would you give to students in your field today?
My most important piece of advice: Be aware that a dual degree program is no walk in the park. You probably won’t be lying in the park having a barbecue at 1:00 p.m. like other students. Instead of taking a semester break, you’ll be working at the company, and your vacations will often be spent on assignments or exams. But: If you stick with it, you’ll end up not only with your bachelor’s thesis in hand, but also with the key to many career opportunities. You’ll be highly trained in your field, have practical experience—and you’ll get your vacations back afterward!
