HWR Berlin students will have the opportunity to complete an exchange semester in Shanghai for the next years.  During a delegation visit from Shanghai, the two presidents, Prof. Dr. Jens Hermsdorf (HWR Berlin) and Prof. ZHU Xinyuan (University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, USST), signed an agreement to intensify the cooperation that has been in place since 2021. In recent years, almost 100 students from USST have spent an exchange semester at HWR Berlin and around 50 HWR Berlin students have studied at USST in Shanghai.

Since 2014, USST has maintained a Sino-German College, which was founded in cooperation with several German universities. These include HAW Hamburg, with which HWR Berlin is affiliated through the UAS7 consortium. Chinese students learn German and often spend part of their studies in Germany.

Through the ‘Flying Faculty’ programme, teaching staff from HWR Berlin have also been to USST at the Sino-German College. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Alexander Steinmann from the Dual Study Department teaches regularly in Shanghai and was awarded the title of ‘best professor’ there. In future, the teaching exchange programme is to be further strengthened.

USST is a large and long-established university with over 27,000 students. It dates back to 1907, when it was founded as the ‘German Medical School for Chinese in Shanghai’ and Hujiang University.
