A semester abroad doesn't have to be a compromise on sustainability! Our students have impressively proven this through the Erasmus+ Green Travel Competition. We congratulate the winners, who creatively and inspiringly documented their eco-friendly journeys to their host universities. Their reports provide concrete reasons to choose "Green Travel" and were awarded prizes of up to €100.

More Relaxed, Authentic, and Climate-Friendly

The submitted reports highlighted that traveling sustainably by train, bus, bike, or carpool not only benefits the climate but also enriches the adventure:

  • Leonie, a Master’s student in Marketing Management, described her conscious way of traveling: "Arriving by bus feels different than by plane – slower, more relaxed, and somehow more authentic, closer to the journey you've made." Slow travel makes the journey itself part of the experience.
  • Jannes, also a Master’s student, provided tangible proof: He emphasized that train travel significantly reduces CO2 emissions (citing only 2 kg of CO2 for the Paris-Berlin route, compared to 200 kg by plane) while also saving on the baggage fees often charged by budget airlines.

These examples show that an exchange period can be successfully combined with a sustainable lifestyle thanks to Green Travel—the use of low-emission transport for the majority of the journey.

Participate in Summer Semester 2026

The International Office is proud of the students' commitment and is already planning the next competition:

  • Green Travel Competition: This competition is being planned for Outgoing students starting their exchange in Summer Semester 2026.
  • Green Travel Top-Up: Regardless of the competition, all Erasmus+ students who choose sustainable travel receive the Green Travel Top-Up as increased financial support.

Up-to-date information on the Green Travel Top-Up (as of 09.12.2025) and participation in next year's competition can be found in the Moodle course “International Office FB 1” and in the “Green Travel” section on Moodle.
