Sustainability and Diversity Day

The HWR Berlin warmly invites you to the Day of Sustainability and Diversity, where all interested parties can explore the facets of diversity and the responsible use of nature and society. An interactive climate planning game, sounding board, barcamp, insights into sustainability and diversity-oriented research as well as exciting keynotes offer various opportunities for critical exchange and lively discussions.

10.00-12.00 | ClimateChallenge 2024 (in English) | Room B 2.03
Immerse yourself in the world of climate policy and take on the ClimateChallenge 2024, an interactive simulation game. The simulator allows participants to take on the role of decision-makers, politicians and activists to jointly explore solutions and try to limit global warming to below 2°C by 2100.

The Sustainability and Diversity teams will report on last year's activities and would like to receive your feedback. Take the opportunity to contribute your ideas on sustainability and diversity at HWR Berlin.

11.00-12.00 | Workshop Sustainability Concept | Aula
We will discuss with you our ideas on how we can make sustainability measurable in the areas of management and communication, operations and campus life, studies and teaching, research and transfer.

12:45-13:15 | Keynote Prof. Dr. Levermann »Folding the world« | Aula & Livestream
Anders Levermann, Head of Complexity Science at the Potsdam Climate Institute, presents a mathematical perspective to overcome the dilemma between limited resources and the need for further development. Learn how science can help tackle the challenges of growth and the climate crisis while mitigating social inequality.

13.20-13.50 | Keynote Eren Ünsal »Diversity and Anti-discrimination – Two Sides of the Same Coin« | Aula & Livestream
Eren Ünsal, Head of the State Office for Equal Treatment against Discrimination, will speak about strategies for the sustainable promotion of diversity and equal opportunities in Berlin's administration, politics, and urban society. She will present the central principles of anti-discrimination law and discuss the essential role of a human rights-based approach to diversity.

13.50-14.30 | Coffee break and poster session | Aula
Exhibition of research work by teachers and students of the HWR Berlin on the topics of sustainability and diversity. The researchers will be available for questions.

14.30–16.00 Uhr | Barcamp | Aula
There will be space to present your topics and ideas on how universities can contribute to greater sustainability and diversity in the areas of operations, research and teaching in 3-minute pitches. 16.00-17.15 | Building futures! A trial #soloprobe for sustainability at the HWR Berlin (in English) | Martin Ciesielski & Caroline V. Rudzinska | Aula
How many futures do we have? Which futures are probable and which futures would be desirable for the HW Berlin? What kind of (free) spaces and methods are needed to actively shape them? We will discuss and test these questions together using an artistic research format: the #soloprobe. The aim is to sketch an initial picture of the future of the HWR Berlin together on site and to approach the topic of sustainability in a meaningful and playful way, with fun and emotional curiosity.
